Always

Every day, I see thousands of faces on this chaotic campus
The only one I want to see every day is yours

I’m all for the pursuit of perfection
But please, don’t doubt your reflection
You’re already perfectly you
I want you to feel wanted
To be confident
But only to a certain extent
Build yourself up too tall & down you’ll fall
I’ll be here to pick up the pieces
Just as you’ve always done for me
Except for when you leave
I never get to see, get to know...
Where do you go?

You're my connection to this world
Without you, I wonder around like a lost soul

You’ve witnessed my best
Seen me fail to impress
When I lost my voice you barely gave me a choice
Practically demanded that I write more
Yet you want more than just words
So do I
You’ll find this is how I find myself
I think about you when my thoughts are true
& there’s no one else I’d rather write for

We’re on & off
Forced to be apart
You've pushed me away
Hell, I've done the same
Through it all, though, you’ve been there
You’ve been here from the start
I'm thankful for that, for you
I always write best with my heart

  5. That last line is magical. 'Because I always write best with my heart' ~ a wonderful ending to a wonderful poem. So much in here that I can relate to.

  6. What I really like is "You're already perfectly you." This is a wonderful thing to express to a person, makes them feel appreciated for who they are... I also like the idea of writing best with one's heart. So very true! Without heart, writing lacks most everything. I enjoyed your poem deeply!

  12. I appreciate the genuine nature of emotion here, and the best gift you can give to anyone is to let them be exactly who they were meant to be. Very sweet :)

  13. "You’re already perfectly you"
"Because I always write best with my heart"

My two favorite lines in this--the first, a perfect reminder to that person that they are loved just the way they are. The second, an honest reflection of how the relationship brings out the "best" in the writer, despite on again/off again. Really enjoyed this piece, indeed you do write best with your heart. :-)

  14. It is so important to have someone to write to w. your heart...someone who supports, encourages...more than a muse..heartfelt Alex. I loved the honesty here. ~jackie~

  17. Reading your work definitely feels like looking thru a smartly crafted window of honesty and truth . . . a poet without a muse is like a window without a view . . . you keep writing and I’ll keep peeping ;)

  18. It is so good to have someone, a 'through it all' friend, who inspires us to be who we are meant to be. This definitely came through as straight from your heart Alex. Well done!
