Yard Work

I often get reflective when thinking about perspective...

They say the grass is always greener on the other side.
What the clichés don't say, though,
is that the grass on your side wouldn't be so damn brown
if you just took the time to water it.
The best way to get what you want
is to put in the effort
& to care about what you already have.

I often get reflective when thinking about perspective...
Reminiscing over resurfacing memories,
feelings or emotions I neglected
& pushed aside at the time when they occurred...
I've learned that materialistic tendencies
& extreme objectivity,
can skew our view of reality,
can blind us to what really matters.

Yes, I often get too reflective when I overthink perspective...
Like an over corrective detective,
desperately searching for the most effective,
least subjective method.
But who am I kidding?
It's not complicated.
It isn't a mystery.
Sometimes it's easiest
to just love,
to just live.

Simplicity really is the key
when putting it all into perspective.

  1. Nice voice... I really loved the message here. We do worry too much about what others have; thus, neglecting our own shit

  2. I don't think a person should overthink anything....including perspective. Smiles. And yes, simplicity IS the key.

    1. Unfortunately I make a habit of overthinking everything. But I'm working on it, & that's what this poem symbolizes. Thanks for the comment, Mary.

  4. Yes - The other side of the fence is not of our concern.... Let's be ourselves.

  6. to actually see with anothers perspective takes quite a bit of work...communication and listening...seeking understanding...love is easier....though it still takes work...i think it just makes the work a bit easier....often we dont see the challenges on the greener side of the grass...

  9. We see greener grass somewhere else, but or neighbours are probably just as jealous about what we have. Love the rhythm to your piece!

  10. I love this...there is a lyrical voice to your words that is altogether lovely...but the word choices are also brilliantly chosen and placed and that is so cleverly crafted....and then the whole thing is a meaningful message that is, of course, the conclusion that anyone who overthinks will ever truly, really come to if they give it enough thought: "just love."

  11. Thought provoking poem! And lovely choice of words. The grass is always greener on the other side, we will always see the glass as half empty. Too often, we just forget to relax and enjoy what we have got!

  13. simplicity is the key..I agree sometimes we over think..what happened to just feeling the moment..someone once told me the grass is greener until you climb the fence..but, then again sometimes in life you have to take a chance and climb that fence. It's all about perspective.

  17. love and live, worry free, that's how we cherish,
there shall be no threats but competitions, fair grounds, and ideas shifting options,
when one door closes, another door will open.
